WB suggests Vietnam adopt competitive bidding strategy for solar projects
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam can increase its solar generation capacity from the current 4.5 gigawatts to tens of gigawatts in 10 years, while creating thousands of new jobs, if it applies a new bidding scheme for solar projects, according to the World Bank’s new Vietnam Solar Competitive Bidding Strategy and Framework report.

The report, supported by the Global Infrastructure Facility (GIF) and the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), addresses curtailment and improved risk allocation between public and private investors. Vietnam is considering moving from a feed-in-tariff (FIT) policy to a competitive bidding scheme for solar projects to reduce the cost of solar generation.
