A performance at the Xip Xi Festival 2023.

Xip Xi in Thai means fourteen. The Xip Xi festival is a traditional New Year's Day of the White Thai ethnic group and Thai people in Phu Yen district, Son La in particular.

In the past, it was a one-day event on the 14th day of the 7th lunar month. Today, it is organized in combination with a festival to finish ploughing as a harvest season almost ends and celebrate the achievements of the 1st half of the year. 

This year, Xip Xi festival has two parts – a ritual and a festival – which include a culinary contest, a traditional costume contest, and folk games.

Sa Duc Toan, Secretary of Quang Huy commune Party’s Committee, said, “Quang Huy commune has made careful preparations for this year’s festival with diverse activities. Local people are very eager.”
