Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was speaking at a meeting of International Health Regulations Emergency Committee on Thursday.
In a video address at the Commonwealth Summit in Kigali (Rwanda), he warned that person to person transmission is ongoing and is likely underestimated.
More than 3,200 confirmed and nearly 1,500 suspected monkeypox cases were reported to the WHO. In addition, about 70 deaths are suspected to be related to the disease. The WHO chief warned that monkeypox seems to be spreading with more cases than statistics.
