(VOVworld) – A ceremony was held in Sepone District, Savanakhet province, Laos, on Wednesday to announce the winners of a competition on the history of the Vietnam – Laos special relationship.

Present were Vietnamese and Lao Deputy Prime Ministers, Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Somsavath Lengsavath and other state leaders. Tamaphong Khammaphong who won first prize in the contest said ‘I’ve learned about Vietnam – Laos and Laos – Vietnam solidarity and special relations through books, radio, TV, documentaries, and stories from my grandparents and parents. The competition has involved many schools. Through the contest, I’ve become more aware of the special relationship between our two nations.’
The two Deputy Prime Ministers presented two first prizes, five second prizes, and 13 third prizes to winners from both countries. The contest received 3 million entries, with around 20,000 students sitting for multiple choice tests every week for eight months in Vietnam and six months in Laos. The award ceremony was part of activities to mark the Vietnam-Laos 2012 Friendship Year.
