(VOVworld) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday urged the Israeli government to swiftly investigate the death of Palestinian Settlement Minister Ziad Abu Ein, who died in a confrontation with Israeli troops. Ban called on Palestinians and Israelis to stay calm and asked the leaders of the two countries to resume peace talks.

Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, demanded an "immediate" inquiry into the death of the senior Palestinian official. The US Department of State urged all parties to ease tensions in the West Bank following Ein’s death. The governments of Jordan and Egypt condemned Israeli troops for assaulting and killing Ein and urged them to stop committing violence against Palestinians.
