World powers trying to save Iran deal without US
(VOVWORLD) - Two weeks after US President Donald Trump pulled the US from the Iran nuclear deal, the remaining participants to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) convened their first meeting in Vienna, Austria, on Friday.

At the meetings chaired by the European Union on Friday, British, Chinese, French, German, and Russian officials will work with the Iranian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to find a new strategy to salvage the deal by maintaining investment flows and petroleum contracts regardless of sanctions imposed by the US.
Iran wants a guarantee from the EU to protect commercial contracts and ensure that parties involved will continue to buy Iran’s oil.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said he hopes the remaining countries will offer a new package of economic guarantees within the reached agreement while refraining from adding anything new.
An Iranian official said the meeting is very important to prove whether or not the parties concerned are serious about the deal.
