(VOVWORLD) -General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife will pay a State visit to Vietnam on Tuesday and Wednesday. In an interview with the Vietnamese press, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai said the visit shows that the Chinese Party and State and Xi Jinping himself value the relationship with Vietnam.

During the visit, senior leaders of the two Parties and countries will discuss major and comprehensive orientations on deepening and upgrading the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China; promote the tradition of exchanges between senior leaders to consolidate political trust; and deepen cooperation, steering bilateral ties to a new, more substantive and more effective stage of development.
Inheriting the tradition of friendship and practice between the two sides, the Party, State and people of Vietnam attach great importance to the visit and will give General Secretary and President Xi Jinping a special, warmest welcome.
Vietnam-China relations have maintained stable momentum, with new developments. Despite decreasing trade between China and its partners, Vietnam is one of the few partners that still maintains stable trade with China. Two-way trade turnover in the past 10 months reached 139.2 billion USD. According to Chinese customs, the figure is 185 billion USD. China remains Vietnam's largest trading partner and second largest export market. Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's 8th largest partner in the world.
Cooperation in tourism, culture, and education is making progress. China has almost restored all commercial flights to Vietnam with more than 200 outbound and inbound flights every week. In the first 11 months of 2023, 1.5 million Chinese tourists visited Vietnam.
The Vietnam-China land border maintains peace and stability. The two sides reached a common understanding on adequately controlling disagreements and maintaining peace and stability at sea in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Both have promoted negotiation mechanisms on maritime issues, fully and effectively implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), striving to build a practical, effective and efficient Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
In addition, the two sides have closely coordinated at multilateral forums to promote peace, stability and cooperation.
