The virus was detected in a man returning from Martinique and in a woman who traveled to the Dominican Republic. Both displayed flu-like symptoms and a skin rash.

Japan’s Health Ministry said on Thursday that a male teenager near Tokyo was found to have been infected with the Zika virus after a visit to Brazil, Japan’s first case of the infection since the virus started spreading widely in Latin America last year. The teenager was in Brazil for 12 days through February 20 on a sightseeing trip with his family. Although he had a fever of nearly 38 degrees on Saturday, a thermographic inspection at the quarantine station when he arrived in Japan failed to detect the infection.

In Costa Rica, Health Minister Fernando Llorca announced Costa Rica’s first two Zika cases, including a pregnant woman.
