The speaker of the Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, read out a letter in which Mr. Mugabe said he was stepping down. Earlier, 230 of 260 of MPs agreed to go ahead with impeachment proceedings against President Mugabe. Thousands of protesters gathered in front of the Parliament building to demand Mugabe’s resignation.
