18 billion FDI registered in Vietnam in 7 months

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam attracted 18 billion USD of foreign direct investment in the past 7 months, an increase of more than 10% over the same period last year, according to the Department of Foreign Investment of the Ministry of Planning and Investment. FDI disbursement reached more than 12.5 billion USD, an increase of 8.4%.

The processing and manufacturing industry took the lead with a total investment capital of 12.65 billion USD. It’s followed by the real estate sector, wholesale and retail, specialized industries, science and technology, and other industries. The processing and manufacturing industry recorded the biggest number of new projects while the wholesale and retail industry saw the biggest number of capital and share transactions.

Singapore was the biggest investment partner, accounting for one fourth of the total investment in Vietnam. It’s followed by Hong Kong (China), Japan, China, and South Korea. Kyrgyzstan was the first-time investor in Vietnam.

So far there 147 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Foreign investors chanelled their capital into 48 cities and provinces across the country, of which Bac Ninh took the lead in terms of FDI attraction with nearly 3.2 billion USD, Quang Ninh 1.56 billion USD, and Ho Chi Minh City 1.55 billion USD.

By July 20th, the total FDI disbursement nationwide stood at an estimated 12.55 billion USD, up 8.4% on-year.
