Activities mark 55th anniversary of Agent Orange/Dioxin catastrophe in Vietnam

(VOVworld) – A press conference on activities to mark the 55th anniversary of the Agent Orange/Dioxin catastrophy was held in Hanoi on Thursday.

President of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) Nguyen Van Rinh said such activities include the 3rd National Emulation Congress for victims of agent orange/dioxin and an international symposium on the harm caused by agent orange/dioxin used by the US amry during the Vietnam War. A meeting will be held on August 10 with approximately 1,000 people attending. Mr. Rinh said these activities are intended to popularize Party and state policies on addressing the consequences of the toxic chemicals used by the US army during the Vietnam War. He added that they were calling for public support for the victims’ fight for justice and their material and spiritual lives: “4 Vietnamese generations have been affected by agent orange/dioxin. The government has decided that the children of these victims will benefit from social policies. The government will also consider allowances for the victims’ grandchildren.”
