(VOVworld) – A press conference was held in Hanoi on Tuesday to review efforts to clear unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Vietnam on the eve of International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on April 4th.

Vietnam is one of the countries most affected by postwar bombs and mines. About 800,000 tons of UXOs remain scattered across 20% of Vietnam’s land, mainly in the central region.
To Duc, Deputy Director of the Social Protection Department, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, says: “We have been providing support for UXO victims, focusing on vocational training and job generation. We also support means of subsistence models that involve raising cows and pigs, growing mushrooms, and providing services suitable to the physical abilities of bomb and mine victims.”
A ceremony is scheduled to take place in Quang Nam next Tuesday to mark International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. An exchange program called “A journey for a bright tomorrow” will be held in Hanoi the same day by the Association for Supporting Vietnamese UXO Victims.
