Enhancing Vietnam's position in UN multilateral mechanisms

(VOVworld) – As a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Vietnam has affirmed its image at the UN leading human rights forum and its improved position that has been internationally recognized.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc made the remark in an interview granted to the media reviewing 2 years since Vietnam becomes a member of the UNHRC.

Ngoc said Vietnam has proven it an active and responsible member in joining other nations to handle common challenges in human rights. Vietnam has greatly contributed to the development of the council’s resolutions and decisions in favor of balance and comprehensiveness to meet the interests of various parties.

Since 2016 Vietnam has become a representative in the Asia and Pacific region for the working group to consider notes of protest on human rights.

Ngoc said Vietnam’s joining of the UN Human Rights Council with a view to speaking highly of dialogues and cooperation, for a common goal of ensuring human rights based on mutual respect and exchange of information.

To date, Vietnam has been a co-initiator of more than 30 resolutions on ensuring the rights to development, to women, children, and people with disabilities, on anti-violence fight, discrimination, and human trafficking.

Ngoc said Vietnam’s membership has affirmed the success of its multi-diplomacy policy, its image, and position in the international arena.
