Except for the Kinh majority and the Vietnamese-Chinese, the remaining 52 ethnic groups in Vietnam live throughout three regions of the country. The current challenge is to address the preservation and promotion of the cultural values of ethnic minority communities together with their socio-economic development.

To that end, it’s necessary to pay attention to the means of subsistence for ethnic minoirty groups and increase their awareness of the way to approach  the preservation and promotion of the culture of ethnic people and the application of the related policies.

Professor, Doctor Luu Tran Tieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, said: “The preservation and promotion of ethnic culture should be combined with the advancements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Digitalization is required for the core data relating to the cultural identities of ethnic groups. This will make the introduction and promotion of those communities to the world much easier.”

Participants underscored the need to invest more in the work of ethnic artisans and skilled workers and in the conservation of ethnic spoken and written languages, traditional festivals, instruments, and costumes.

They also called for improving the training and management of social workers engaging in ethnic cultural preservation.
