Foreigners thank Vietnam for Covid-19 response

(VOVWORLD) - As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to spread complicatedly, the Vietnamese government has worked to support foreigners to ensure their normal life and provide them adequate medical care and intensive treatment if necessary. What Vietnam has done has won foreigners' applause.

Shan, No.24 Covid-19 patient in Vietnam, is an Irish tourist coming to Vietnam from Britain on March 2nd. She had recovered after treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases. Shan said she is a retired doctor. She knew she would have died of Covid-19, but Vietnamese doctors saved her. Shan’s husband is still very weak and needs special treatment. She thanked Vietnamese doctors for helping him and other patients recover.

A British scientist was a passenger on flight VN54 landed in Vietnam on March 2nd and was sent to 14-day quarantine at Vietnam’s Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases. He sent a thank-you letter to the hospital, doctors, and health workers for their hard work.

Bobby Chinn, a New Zealand’s chef, wrote on his Facebook account: “When I think of the Vietnamese, I bow my head to them with utmost respect. They are the volunteer workers at the facility holding my father in quarantine. This is dedication.” 

British Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward sent his thanks to all Vietnamese doctors, nurses, and government’s officials for supporting the British visitors during this time. He delivered a message to British citizens who have decided to stay in Vietnam during the Covid-19 pandemic. “The Vietnamese government has issued several new regulations to contain of the Coronarvirus in the country, especially in the big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. These restrictions are carried out to ensure public health and safety in Vietnam. We urged you to comply with local law and customs to avoid getting fined or panics. We are very fortunate to live and work in Vietnam. We should not expect to be treated differently from local people. So please respect the law, respect Vietnamese culture norms, and show that you’re playing your part in tackling this global pandemic.”

US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink posted a video clip on the US Consulate’s Facebook page to thank Vietnamese people at the frontline of the fight against the pandemic. He said: “I simply want to say thank you to all the people in Vietnam working in the frontline of this fight. Your work is saving life. I also want to commend the government of Vietnam which has been doing an outstanding job in its response to Covid-19 and continues to be proactive, cooperative, and transparent.”

The Ambassador said the US and Vietnam will continue to cooperate in the fight against the Covid-19 and even after it is resolved.
