Information on seas and islands promoted in 2013
(VOV) – Vietnam will publicize the important role and potential of Vietnam’s seas and islands for national construction and defence this year.
According to the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education, publications will cover Party and State policies and legal documents on Vietnam’s seas and islands including Vietnam’s Marine law, the principal contents of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and the Code of Conduct in the East Sea. Other topics include the achievements of sea and island economic development, the role of economic sectors in marine development, and achievements in international marine cooperation.
Vietnam will fight against any foreign action that violates sovereignty over Vietnam’s waters, continental shelf, and 200-nautical-mile maritime Exclusive Economic Zone, and protest any distortion by hostile forces of the Vietnamese government’s viewpoint in resolving issues related to Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty. Vietnam will inform the world of its stance on sovereignty over Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagoes as well as the Party and State’s guidelines and policies on East Sea issues to gain more support from the international community.
