(VOVworld) – A meeting was held in Hanoi today/on Friday to mark the 65th War Invalids and Martyrs Day. Party and Government top leaders and delegates representing thousands of war invalids, relatives of martyrs, and heroic mothers attended the event. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung reviewed the heroic tradition in the struggles for national protection. He said, inheriting a thousand-year tradition and under the leadership of the Party; the Vietnamese people have overcome numerous difficulties to gain independence and freedom and unite the country. Millions of young people have given their lives for the nation. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said ‘Such great sacrifice has made Vietnam more glorious. They died for the nation’s immortality. The heroic sacrifice of martyrs prepared Vietnam’s blossoming. Vietnamese people will keep the martyrs’ merit eternally’.
Mr. Dung said celebrating War Invalids and Martyrs Day is a Vietnamese tradition – drinking water, remembering its source. Although Vietnam still faces numerous difficulties, the Party and Government have pushed policies to recognize and reward those who rendered great services to the nation, expanding medical facilities and healthcare services and generating jobs for their relatives. Prime Minister Dung called for even greater efforts to repay the debt of gratitude ‘Agencies at all levels should continue to fully implement the ordinance catering for people who contributed to the revolution and related preferential policies. Special attention should be given to education, vocational training, and job creation for these people and their relatives. By the end of next year, all the beneficiaries in need of housing will be provided with basic accommodation. Other preferential policies for these beneficiaries will be adopted in line with the country’s socio-economic development’.
