Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said his Ministry and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have protocols with other countries to promote the consumption of agricultural products and expand markets for Vietnamese agricultural products.
Mr. Hoan said: “It is essential to pay attention to code issuance, cultivation and farming areas as well as rebuilding the raw material areas and connecting them into cooperatives in order to overcome unorganized agricultural production. Developing regional specialties is a channel to sell processed products and increase the value for regional agricultural products."
Minister Hoan said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to build brands for agricultural products. "This requires a concentrated raw material area to produce uniform products, standardize major agricultural products, and build institutions to protect the image of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market,” said Minister Hoan.
Regarding solutions to remove the yellow card warning against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing imposed by the European Commission, Minister Hoan said it's important to enhance the Strategy on Vietnam's Fisheries Development until 2030, with a Vision to 2045 approved by the Prime Minister, which aims to reduce exploitation, increase aquaculture, and promote marine conservation.
“Vietnam has seen progress in its effort to remove the IUU yellow card over the past 7 years. We have reorganized a fishery control system. Currently, 28 coastal localities have fishery surveillance forces. We also have a Resolution of the Council of Judges of the Supreme People's Court for IUU-related violations. In the coming time, we need to continue efforts to remove the IUU yellow card, and coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of National Defense to deploy this. It is essential to get fishermen to participate in protecting aquatic resources,” said Mr. Hoan.
