(VOVworld) – A photo exhibit on China’s reclamation and island building activities in the East Sea was held at Chosun University in the Republic of Korea on Friday and Saturday.
The exhibit displays 80 photos on shoals and coral reefs in Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, calling for an end to unilateral activities to change the status quo in the East Sea and good will to maintain peace, stability, and development in the region. The exhibit was organized by the Korean Association of Vietnamese Studies with support from the Korea-Vietnam Cultural Exchange Association. Chairman of the Korean Association of Vietnamese Studies Ahn Kyong Hwan said that the East Sea is of geopolitical importance to countries in the region such as Vietnam, the Philippines, and China but others around the world. Therefore, maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the East Sea is the responsibility of all nations.

He said that as a scholar and a professor, who teaches Vietnamese culture, history, and language to Korean students, he personally thinks Hoang Sa and Truong Sa belong to Vietnam since the 17th century. He added that the exhibit was aimed to help Korean people understand more about the East Sea issue and that these archipelagoes belong to Vietnam.
