The meeting, jointly organized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and Kien Giang provincial authorities, discussed ways to fulfil the dual goal of fighting COVID-19 and ensuring economic development.

Quang Xuan Lua, Deputy Director of the Kien Giang’s Tourism Department said COVID-19 vaccination is being accelerated in Phu Quoc to prepare for welcoming back foreign visitors on a trial basis.

“People 18 and over in Phu Quoc have been vaccinated with their first dose. Their second dose will be administered by the end of October or the beginning of November. We’re upgrading our medical equipment, human resources, testing capability, and epidemic prevention. We expect to welcome back visitors by November 20 as planned,” Mr. Lua said.

Phu Quoc’s reopening targets foreign tourists from COVID-19 safe areas including the US, South Korea, India, China, Russia, Italy, and Australia.
