(VOVWORLD) - The tremendous cultural legacy of poet Nguyen Du and his epic Tale of Kieu, will be celebrated in a series of activities to commemorate his 255th birthday and 200th death anniversary.

Preparations have been completed for the event, to be held from Thursday to Saturday in Ha Tinh province.
Nguyen Hai Nam, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nghi Xuan district, Nguyen Du’s homeland, said, “A series of events will honor Nguyen Du’s poetry, including a Nguyen Du Festival, cultural exchanges, and promotion of Vietnamese culture and tourism to a wider audience.”
Nguyen Du’s Tale of Kieu is considered the pinnacle of Vietnamese literature. Written in six-eight verses, the poem recounts the life, trials, and tribulations of Thuy Kieu, a beautiful, talented young woman, who sacrifices herself to save her family in Vietnam’s feudal period.
