(VOVworld) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has praised contributions made by the Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, researchers, and organizations both in and outside the country to the preservation of Vietnamese cultural heritages, including “don ca tai tu” or amateur singing of Vietnam’s southern region. He made the remarks at a ceremony on Tuesday night in Ho Chi Minh City to receive a certificate of UNESCO’s recognition of tai tu music as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Prime Minister Dung attributed the recognition to efforts of local authorities, artists, artisans, people, and overseas Vietnamese to protect and develop the art form in various ways. He said: "As Vietnam deepens its international integration, it’s necessary for us to preserve and develop the fine cultural traditions passed down by our predecessors. It’s important to have practical activities to protect the precious cultural values of Vietnam. The Vietnamese people, no matter where they reside, all turn their hearts and souls to their home country and join hands to develop their fatherland. It is our task to make the Vietnamese cultural quintessence to shine together with those of mankind."

Prime Minister Dung requested officials and artisans to cooperate and effectively implement the national action programme to preserve and develop the music form that originates from the southern region.
