After 69 years, the then Dien Bien Phu battlefield has now become a busy, modern mountain urban area. Dien Bien province has upheld the important values of the Dien Bien Phu victory to develop the local economy.

In the first three months of this year, the province welcomed more than 300,000 visitors, 10 folds higher than the same period last year, and earned more than 22 million USD, 11 folds higher than last year.

Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee said that the Dien Bien Phu battlefield is a precious spiritual legacy of the army and people of Dien Bien province. It is the tourism center of the northwestern region, said Mr. Do.

“In order to preserve and promote the value of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield and taps its potential to promote tourism, Dien Bien province is mobilizing resources to restore this relic site. We want to educate young generations about Vietnam’s heroic tradition and at the same time creating attractive tourism products for the province,” said Mr. Do.
