(VOVworld)- A boat racing festival opened in Hong Linh township, Ha Tinh province on Sunday. The annual festival is also an opportunity for people to pay gratitude to the God for helping them with good business over the past year and pray for favorable weather, good crop and luck for the New Year. Nguyen Cong Loc is Vice Chairman of Trung Luong Ward’s People’s Committee: “The success of the festival will bring good luck to local people. The local craft of forging is also promoted at this festival. Holding the festival, local people want to pray for a prosperous year”.

In central Quang Tri province, thousands of local people and visitors attended a market session of luck in Dinh Bich market, Trieu Phong district. Legends tell that there was a gold tortoise living in the lake in front of the communal house. On the third day of the first lunar month, local people came to burn incense to worship the tortoise. If it emerged, it forecast a lucky year to come or vice versa. Since then, on this day, people gather around the lake and play the drum to call the tortoise to pray for good luck. Le Van Thanh is a local: “People come to the market to sell and buy luck. There is no bargain in the market. The buyers often pay at the prices that the sellers offer”.
