Tank 390 recognized as a national treasure
(VOVworld) – Hanoi’s Tank and Armoured Museum has made public the Prime Minister’s decision to recognize tank No.390 as a national treasure.
The tank was used in the Ho Chi Minh Offensive and fought its way into the Independence Palace, the last stronghold of the Sai Gon regime, at noon on April 30, 1975. Before carrying out this historical feat the tank and its crew were involved in several fierce battles.
When speaking about the tank, major-general Nguyen Trong Nghia, said that it is a symbol of the Vietnamese People’s Army’s triumph and the power of the Vietnamese revolution.
"With its special place in national history, tank 390 has been on display in the Museum of the Tank and Armoured Forces. It’s a precious object showing people nationwide, and especially young people, our nation’s revolutionary tradition and is vivid evidence of our triumphant victory in the national war of resistance," Nghia said.
The tank is one of 30 recognized by the Prime Minister as national treasures, including drums, statues and books that all have historical value.
