(VOVworld) – Many activities are taking place nationwide to mark the 71st anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army on December 22nd.
Vietnam’s Small and Medium-sized Enterprises’ Association organized a ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday for the construction of a hostel complex at Truong Son National Cemetery. The complex is expected to accommodate the relatives and families of martyrs visiting the site.
Tuyen Quang authorities organized a meeting on Tuesday for retired senior military officers. The chairman of provincial People’s Committee Pham Minh Huan acknowledged the retired officers’ contributions to ensuring political security, defense, and local socio-economic development.
A ceremony was held in Quang Nam on Tuesday to award the title “Hero of the People's Armed Forces” to individuals with the most outstanding contributions during the American war.
Activities to mark the 71st anniversary of Vietnam People’s Army are also taking place abroad.

The Cambodian royal army, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, and the local overseas Vietnamese laid wreaths and paid tribute to fallen Vietnamese soldiers at a monument in Phnom Penh to commemorate the volunteer Vietnamese soldiers who died helping Cambodians escape the Pol Pot genocide.
Earlier, on Sunday, a gathering was held in Berlin to mark the event. Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung hailed the glorious achievements and traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army and encouraged the war veterans, who now reside in Germany, to contribute to developing the Vietnamese community in Germany, and promoting the Vietnamese-German strategic partnership.
Ceremonies were also held in New Delhi, India, to mark the event. Vietnam’s Military Attaché to India, Colonel Pham Thanh Luong, said the Vietnam People’s Army has been growing rapidly in the past few years.
