Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang said that during this pandemic, many countries and territories, including ASEAN members, have restricted the entry of foreigners. She said Vietnam’s restrictions are in accordance with International Health Regulations and are being carried out on a non-discriminatory basis.

The spokesperson said compulsory health monitoring and quarantine measures are being applied to both Vietnamese and foreigners with the primary goal of ensuring the safety and health of Vietnamese citizens and foreign visitors in Vietnam, and curbing the spread of the virus in the community. Vietnam appreciates and hopes for the understanding and cooperation of other countries in implementing these measures.

Responding to reporters’ questions about whether there is discrimination against foreigners, Ms. Hang said Vietnam’s ministries and localities are following government directives to control the pandemic and protect the safety and health of all Vietnamese and foreign citizens in Vietnam. Their actions have been highly praised by foreigners in Vietnam and the international community.

Ms. Hang said Vietnam hopes that a humane and non-discriminatory spirit will prevail throughout the world, so that citizens of all countries and territories are ensured security, safety, and good health care. She said that the joint efforts of the international community will defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.
