Viet applauded the Special Rapporteur’s choice of Vietnam for his first visit after being appointed by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

He highlighted Vietnam’s policy of respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights. Vietnam ensures that socio-political organizations, enterprises, non-governmental organizations, development partners, and other relevant parties engage in and contribute to this process.

Vietnam gives high priority to achieving its Sustainable Development Goals, with strong effort being devoted to poverty reduction, climate change response, cutting net emissions to zero by 2050, environmental protection, and building a green, circular economy, he said.

Deva spoke highly of Vietnam’s initiatives as a member of the UNHRC for 2023-2025, and its responsible and active participation in the Universal Periodic Review.

The Special Rapporteur said he will take a balanced and transparent approach to promoting international cooperation for the goal of sustainable and inclusive development, and encouraging people’s engagement in building, implementing, and overseeing development policies. He called on Vietnam to continue playing a role in the UNHRC and effectively promoting the universal right to development.
