(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade has transferred the Chairmanship of the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting 2021 to Brunei’s Energy Minister.

The announcement was made at the opening of the 39th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting themed “We care, We prepare, We Prosper” from Monday to Thursday.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said: “In order to maintain the strong development of AMEM cooperation, Vietnam would like to transfer the Chairmanship of AMEM 39 to Brunei. We hope that AMEM energy cooperation will continue to prosper with new initiatives to ensure energy safety toward prosperity and sustainability for all people.”
ASEAN Energy Ministers said Vietnam has successfully fulfilled its role as the AMEM Chairman, contributing to a more cohesive ASEAN Community in economic recovery and sustainable energy transition.
The Ministers acknowledged the results of the 1st phase of the ASEAN Energy Action Plan from 2016 to 2025 and progress of other energy projects in the region.
They adopted the Bandar Seri Begawan Declaration on Energy Security and Energy Transition, confirming their will to pursue the regional energy transition and security goals and agreement on financial measures, investment attraction, and technical assistance to develop low-carbon economies in the ASEAN Community.
