(VOVworld) – Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will attend the UN General Assembly’s 68^th session which opened in New York, the US on September 18.  Under the theme “The Post 2015 Development Agenda: Setting the Stage” focuses on the implementation of the millennium development goals and post-2015 development issues.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN Le Hoai Trung

Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN, Le Hoai Trung, told VOV’s reporter in Washington that Prime Minister Dung’s trip is an opportunity to promote Vietnam and to exchange at the state level external policies and comprehensive reform guidelines, aiming to attract the UN and other countries’ support to safeguard international peace and mobilize resources for Vietnam.  Ambassador Trung said: "Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly to highlight Vietnam’s views on international major events including measures relating to peace and security and the post-2015 development agenda. He will meet with the UN Secretary General and some leaders of the UN Development Program to discuss Vietnam’s experience in working with the UN. Vietnam will share its lessons in implementing the Millennium Development Goals, its contributions to UN reform, and decision to get involved in UN peacekeeping activities. The Vietnamese Prime Minister and his entourage will hold a dialogue with American businesses."

Ambassador Trung said Vietnam, as a member of the UN, ASEAN, and a developing country, had made practical contributions to UN reform. ASEAN countries nominated Vietnam to be the bloc’s coordinator to the UN Security Council where Vietnam presented ASEAN’s common views on various issues. Developed and developing countries have praised Vietnam in implementing the MDGs. Vietnam is considered one of the leading countries in undertaking the One UN Initiative.
