Noting President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s attendance at the 28th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting via videoconference on Thursday and Friday, Giang said that despite adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, APEC cooperation has continued.
Themed "Coordinating together, Acting together, Growing together", since the beginning of this year, APEC has held 200 meetings at all levels, focusing on COVID-19 response, economic recovery, trade and investment, sustainable and inclusive development, and enhancement of the forum's effectiveness.
APEC members have discussed ways to realize the APEC vision to 2040 approved last year and set orientations for the bloc’s cooperation in the coming decades.
Vietnam has worked closely with host New Zealand and other APEC members to strongly promote cooperation and contribute to APEC's agenda this year.
As a key contributor to building the APEC Vision 2040, Vietnam has eagerly participated in making a plan to effectively implement the vision.
Vietnam has also been a leader in calling for equal access to vaccines and has made strong commitments and taken specific actions to respond to climate change.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Giang, at the APEC Summit President Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered a major speech which demonstrated Vietnam’s expectation that APEC will continue to lead the region in economic cooperation, promoting regional and global economic growth, and affirming the important role of multilateral cooperation.
Giang expressed his hope that through the 28th APEC Leaders' Week, APEC will set forth solutions, promote cooperation in coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, create new momentum, accelerate economic recovery, and bring the region back to sustainable and inclusive growth.
With the vision of an open, dynamic and resilient Asia-Pacific community by 2040, APEC leaders will set out major directions for the bloc’s cooperation in the next two decades toward an Asia-Pacific region of peace, stability and development, the Deputy FM said.
