(VOVworld) - Head of the Party Central Committee’s External Relations Commission called for the application of historical evidence and international law in settling differences between Vietnam, China and other countries about the East Sea issue.

Hoang Binh Quan told the press on the sidelines of the National Party Congress that these include the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on Conducts of Parties in the East Sea. He reiterated Vietnam’s sufficient legal foundation to confirm its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.
He said Vietnam persisted to using peaceful means based on international law and opposed any use of force or threat to use force to settle the issue: “The dispute cannot be resolved quickly but related parties must conform to common principles. The Communist Party of Vietnam, in its various congresses, has made clear that Vietnam wants to befriend and responsible partner of the world community with responsibility while pursuing a diverse and multilateral foreign policy.”

Quan said that navigation freedom and safety in the East Sea is a joint interest of all regional countries and others.
