Vietnam leads ASEAN in digital economy growth
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam Internet Day 2019, an annual event hosted by the Vietnam Internet Association, took place in Hanoi on Wednesday to commemorate the day Vietnam officially joined the global Internet on November 19th, 1997.

According to the e-economy Southeast Asia report 2019, Vietnam’s internet economy enjoys a growth of more than 40% a year, leading the region.
Pham Hong Hai, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, said the booming of a series of Internet-based economic models has seen widespread benefit.
Hai said: “This year, Vietnam has witnessed the establishment of many tech firms with a determination to become digital service providers and lead a digital society. 2019 also marks an important milestone in the research, application and development of 5G technology in Vietnam after the Ministry of Information and Communications granted licenses for three major telecom firms to test the 5G technology toward future commercialization.”
The Deputy Minister added: “The move will create a singularly important foundation for the development of the e-economy, meeting the demand in Internet connection speed and scale while changing public awareness and boosting growth more sustainably.”
The Vietnam Cloud Computing and Data Center Club made its debut as part of Vietnam Internet Day 2019.
