Nguyen Khac Hieu, Deputy Head of the Department of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change said Vietnam have taken part in Montreal Protocol since 1994 to join the effort to reduce the substances that deplete the ozone layer. Since 2010, Vietnam has got rid of 500 tons of CFC (clorofluorocarbon), which won the country’s UN Environment Program recognition for its positive contribution to the Protocol implementation. The Department and the World Bank have completed a project on management plans to eliminate HSFC (hydrochlorofluorocarbon) in Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen Khac Hieu said: "With the support of the Multilateral Fund, we have defined the finance and technology for the project. What is difficult now is that the enterprises must be aware that when the technology is applied, they have to stop their operation for some time to see its impacts on their production. We hope that they will support us as the new technology will bring benefits, helping create environment friendly products".
