(VOVworld) – The Ministry of Science and Technology held a ceremony to mark the 69^th anniversary of World Standards Day, October 14^th.

Deputy Minister Tran Viet Thanh said state management on standards and technical norms has much improved to meet the demands of Vietnam’s economic integration. The national program to raise the productivity and quality of Vietnamese goods and products towards 2020 sets the target to develop the national standard system to be in line with international standards by 60 percent by 2020. Mr. Thanh said: “It is necessary to promote the application of national standards which are the foundation for production, business and protecting the benefits of Vietnamese enterprises and consumers. We should do more to maintain the quality, and improve the efficiency of standardization. Building such a system in the context of further world and regional integration is a difficult task which requires efforts by staff in the Quality Measurement and Standards sector and support from the relevant ministries, sectors, enterprises and organizations”.

The International Organization for Standardization now has 165 member countries. There are almost 20,000 international standards currently in place, creating favorable conditions for goods and service transactions throughout the world.
