Themed “Water and Sustainable Development”, this year’s campaign, attracting thousands of locals, called for greater public awareness of the link between water resources and sustainable development. It is predicted that two thirds of the world's population will be living in water-stressed conditions by 2025 so sustainable development is an urgent global need.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai spoke at the meeting:“We need co-coordinated effort to use water resources efficiently and minimize the .effects of water and environmental pollution toward reducing poverty and boosting economic development. Rational use of water will help us reach the Millennium Development Goal on ensuring environmental sustainability.”

The Ministry of National Resources and Environment and the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee took this occasion to launch two contests. The first is for Vietnamese students to contribute initiatives to bring safe water to those in areas short of water or restore polluted water resources. The second contest concerns the history and value of rivers in Bac Giang province.
