Vietnam steps up international cooperation in preventing human trafficking

(VOVworld) – A conference on increasing international cooperation against human trafficking opened in Hanoi on Tuesday. The event drew the participation of representatives from international organizations, the diplomatic corp. in Vietnam, the relevant agencies of the Ministry of Public Security, the Border Guard Command, and hot spots of human trafficking in northern Vietnam. The program, underway nationwide, focuses on the border provinces and those provinces with international airports and seaports. It also monitors and steers the implementation of the international treaties on human trafficking prevention that Vietnam has signed up to. The purpose of the project is to formulate, negotiate and sign bilateral agreements on human traffic prevention with at least 3 countries and territories by 2015. It will also increase the exchange of information with other countries through a number of channels including diplomacy and Interpol.
