(VOVworld) - Vietnam always keeps in mind the attention and support of peace and justice lovers including those from the US to the country’s struggle to gain independence. Nguyen Thi Binh, President of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation, made the statement at Friday's reception in Hanoi for a delegation of left-wing Americans that includes Ramsey Clark, former US Secretary of Justice and lawyer Laura Castro. Binh said that during peace time, Vietnam still needs the unity and assistance of international friends. She expressed her wish that Ramsey and other American friends will continue to call for the US Government to take responsibility for Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin victims.
40 years ago, Ramsey who was an anti-war activist, came to Vietnam to meet peace activists, Vietnamese officials and US pilots detained in Hanoi. After this trip, he wrote many articles telling stories that he himself witnessed in Vietnam, which gave pacifists a better understanding of the war in Vietnam. Now, at the age of 85, Ramsey Clark wanted to return to Vietnam once again to learn about today’s Vietnam. He told reporters: ‘Sentimentally, you might say to see after 40 years how the people are on the streets. 40 years ago, nobody was on the streets. It's joy now that streets are full of healthy and happy people with a lot of beautiful babies’.
During his visit to Vietnam, Ramsey Clark will visit Van Canh friendship village, Hoa Lo prison, and other museums and historical relic sites in Hanoi.
