Vietnamese recommended reducing sugar, salt in daily meals

National Institute of Nutrition’s study shows that in recent years, the average salt and sugar consumption of each Vietnamese adult is 2 times higher than recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to the study, Vietnamese people consume 9.4 grams of salt per day on average. The standard for an adult is 5 grams of salt. Vietnamese people also use too much sugar, 46.5 grams per day. The WHO’s recommended level is 25 grams a day. The high salt and sugar consumption is the cause of the increase in obesity, hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes.
