(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam’s agro-forestry and fishery export turnover over the past nine months was estimated at 35.5 billion USD, up 17.7% year on year, despite the severe impacts of COVID-19 on the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said at a press briefing in Hanoi on Tuesday.

The agricultural sector has proved to be a supporting pillar of the economy when it grew by 2.74% in the third quarter and contributed 23.5% to the overall growth of the whole economy, according to the Ministry.
Vietnam is expected to meet its set target of earning 44 billion USD from exports of agro-forestry and fishery products this year.
The agricultural sector still ensured an abundant supply of food and foodstuffs, serving the needs of domestic consumption and export. Agro-forestry-fishery products increased in both quantity and export value.
In nine months, the sector posted a trade surplus of more than 3.3 billion USD. The US, China, Japan and South Korea are Vietnam’s four main export markets.
In the fourth quarter, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will focus on four main solutions to restore production: Promoting market development; stimulating consumption of agricultural products; removing difficulties in capital; removing labor difficulties for agricultural product processing enterprises.
