He made the comment during a workshop called “University education – standardization and international integration”, held on Friday in Hanoi by the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children, and the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. The participants said Vietnam’s university education is facing numerous challenges to catch up with the vigorous development of science and technology and globalization demand. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc stressed the need to give certain autonomy to universities: “It is essential to boost the self-reliance of tertiary education, to enhance the capabilities of the univerity system. We also need to renovate financial mechanisms and create the driving force for sustainable development of the university system”.
