(VOVworld) –The world celebrates its Water Day today, March 22. The annual event is designed to highlight the important role of water. Vietnam held various activities in response to the event such as meetings, parades calling on people to save water, and planting trees.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said today/ on Friday that water was a key to sustainable development, and a decisive factor in people’s health, food security, and economic development. With the theme “Water Cooperation”, this year’s event will particularly focus on solutions towards a harmonious water allocation target, and increased cooperation between countries on the sharing of transboundary groundwater. The UN called on the international community to strengthen its cooperation in water management issues to improve the global sanitation system and increase efforts towards sustainable development. According to a UN report, 780 million people every day have no access to clean water.
