WTO Director-General: Vietnam is on the right path
(VOVworld)- Vietnam is on the right path, Director-General of the World Trade Organistion (WTO) Roberto Azevêdo said about Vietnam’s international integration efforts during an exclusive interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency in Geneva ahead of his official visit to Vietnam from April 14 to 15.

Azevedo said Vietnam has made very significant progress, economically and socially. Millions of people have been lifted out of poverty. Vietnam has become a leading agriculture exporter and a very attractive destination for foreign direct investment in Asia. Vietnam’s economy plays a role in the region, and in the world. Mr. Azevedo said that during his visit to Vietnam he will meet with government officials, business representatives and academics to see how the WTO can help Vietnam’s development. He said that since Vietnam joined the WTO in 2007 a number of reforms have been introduced that made a big difference. He said Vietnam is on the right path. It has developed a network of trade agreements including the important Trans-Pacific Partnership, so the efforts are paying off. He said Vietnam and the WTO need to discuss Vietnam’s future plans and what the WTO can do to help Vietnam realize those plans.
