The new academic year opening ceremony of Na Ot secondary boarding school is held at Na Ot hamlet's communal house while the school is being repaired.

11 schools in Son La province were affected by flooding and landslides. Na Ot secondary boarding school in Mai Son district was severely damaged. Classrooms, school supplies and the dormitory were nearly unsalvageable. Rector Nguyen Trung Huan said: “Teachers and policemen from the Na Ot public security station are cleaning up the classrooms and dormitory. We will organize a new academic year ceremony and pupils will be back to school soon.”

Tan Lang primary school in Phu Yen district is under 20 to 30 cm of mud. Computers, books, and school supplies are ruined. Rector Luong Ngoc Thang said: “We’ll build concrete walls to protect against floods. We have basically prepared for the pupils to go to school.”

Ky Son district in Nghe An province is located upstream from the Ban Ve hydropower reservoir. Flooding inundated hundreds of houses. As the water subsides, the local authorities have mobilized people to help restore the schools. Vi Hoe, Secretary of Ky Son district’s Party Committee, said: “Damaged roads make it difficult for teachers and pupils to get to school. The houses of teachers at Muong Ai and Muong Tip school were totally destroyed. They will have to stay with local families or  in the communal house. We’ll begin the new school year as scheduled.”
