Changing mindsets and paying attention to the green element in supply chains and international trade is no longer a new issue for Vietnamese exporters.

Nguyen Thi Lien, Deputy General Director of the Phong Phu Textiles and Garments Company,  said that a decade ago it changed to automated technology and strict control of technical requirements for products exported to the US and the EU.

Production processes have been changed to strictly manage electricity and water consumption, emissions, and wastewater, and to gradually replace old equipment to create a healthier working environment. It has helped Phong Phu meet standards, improve its reputation with partners, and increase its product competitiveness. Despite market difficulties, it has maintained a growth rate of 15 to 20% and stable operation of 30 factories employing 17,000 workers.

Mrs. Lien said: “If a business doesn’t transform itself to meet market demand, it will not receive any orders. We are proud that we have maintained our operation and recruited more workers.”

Vietnam's good seafood export results are due to the adoption of green production methods.

Truong Dinh Hoe, Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, said the global trend is not just beneficial to health. It requires businesses to focus on green production, which means controlled aquaculture to reduce exploitation.

“Green economy and green export are response to market pressure and also to the need for sustainable development. We help enterprises raise their awareness and get information on green development.”

Many big markets like the EU have set green standards. Vietnam is shifting its growth model from exploitation of natural resources to green growth and sustainable development.
