Vietnam to issue a list of green industries for credit capital
(VOVWORLD) -The Government will direct the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to issue a Vietnam green list, for which credit institutions will focus credit capital, a State Bank of Vietnam official said.
Pham Thi Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of Credit Department, on Monday addressed the Green Finance Conference as part of the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2022 organized by the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) in Ho Chi Minh City.
She said that Vietnam now has 40 credit institutions and banks providing green credit. By the end of October 2022, green credit capital accounted for 4.4% of the total loan capital of these credit institutions. Green credits are understood as credits supported by the banking industry for production and business projects that do not pose risks, or for the purpose of protecting the environment, contributing to the protection of the ecology.
According to Ms. Tung, the State Bank has issued documents guiding the granting of green credit and environmental and social risk management to 12 green sectors and fields. The State Bank has also issued documents to encourage credit institutions to promote green credit growth.
