(VOVWORLD) - It was a nice surprise to receive an email from Chris Malboeuf in Canada, who has not written to us for a long time. Chris said he has been inactive from listening to shortwave for a while and just started listening again.

B: Chris tuned in to VOV’s program on April 21 at 19:00 UTC on the frequency of 11885 kHz. He said there was no propagation and he rated SINPO all 5s.

A: Thank you for tuning to VOVWorld again. We’ll send you a verification card along with our program schedule.

B: We received a letter this week from Liam Spencer in the United States, who wrote to let us know that he listened to VOV’s Japanese program on 12020 kHz at 14:00 UTC on April 1.

A: Thank you, Liam! We’ll forward your reception report to our colleagues in the Japanese section for verification. We truly appreciate your support and hope to hear your thoughts on our English program soon as well.

B: While letters take longer to arrive than emails, there’s something special about holding a handwritten note or a physical postcard. Klaus Huber sent us a reception report from Germany along with a lovely postcard featuring the scenic landscapes of Bad Griesbach, a beautiful spa town in Lower Bavaria.

A: The postcard is lovely. It shows rolling green hills, cozy houses with red roofs, and a peaceful countryside setting. Thank you, Klaus, for sharing a little piece of your hometown with us.

B: We’ve checked Klaus’s reception report for a VOV English program on March 3 on 9730 kHz, which he gave a SINPO rating of 45554. The overall listening conditions were good, he says.

A: Here’s a letter from Anand Mohan Bain, President of Pariwar Bandhu, a shortwave listening club in India. He says the club was founded on August 15, 1990, and ever since then, they’ve been working to spread their love for radio to others. Today, the club has 300 members from many different countries. Mr. Bain says they warmly welcome radio enthusiasts from around the world.

B: Look at these nice 2025 calendars featuring flowers of India. They are absolutely beautiful—bright, colorful, and full of life. It’s a thoughtful gift that really shows the charm of India’s natural beauty.

A: It also reflects the club’s well-organized activities and the care they have for their members. Thank you, Mr. Bain, for sharing your story and these lovely calendars. We look forward to continuing our connection with your club and its members.

B: Sami Mosaad of Egypt emailed us to say: “I cannot express how happy I was to hear my message on the Mailbox show on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Honestly, I wait eagerly from Wednesday to Wednesday, wishing that every day of the week could be Wednesday so I can listen to and enjoy my favorite program daily. My message overcame distance and routine and made its way into Vietnam without a visa.”

A: We’re honored to have passionate and enthusiastic listeners like you, Mr. Mosaad. That’s the great thing about shortwave radio—it connects people across continents, across borders and time zones. It creates a space where cultures meet and friendships grow, even without the internet.

B: And it’s even more special when listeners like you take the time to write and share your stories with us. Mr. Mossad went on to say: “I’m passionately following the celebrations in Vietnam these days, marking 50 years of reunification, the streets adorned with flags and banners. I wish I could see those celebrations and hope our beloved radio station will show us a part of them.”

A: We surely will. VOV’s programs will continue to bring you updates and highlights from the reunification celebrations across Vietnam, so you can feel a part of the joy wherever you are.

B: Bidhan Chandra Sanyal sent us a message on Earth Day, April 22: “Every tree we plant, every drop we save, and every step we take towards sustainability shapes a better tomorrow. Let’s build a future rooted in care and responsibility.”

A: In today’s rapidly changing world, sustainability is no longer just a buzzword — it’s a responsibility. And every year on April 22, Earth Day brings together over 1 billion people in more than 190 countries to take action for the environment.

B: While Earth Day isn't a public holiday in Vietnam, it’s increasingly recognized by schools, companies, NGOs, and individuals as a time to reflect on how we treat our environment — and how we can each contribute to a more sustainable way of living.

A: Vietnam is especially vulnerable to climate change, with rising sea levels, extreme weather, and rapid urbanization putting pressure on natural resources. That’s why Earth Day is increasingly relevant here. Environmental groups such as CHANGE Vietnam, GreenID, and WWF-Vietnam often organize clean-up drives, tree-planting activities, and awareness campaigns in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, and Can Tho.

B: Schools and universities run eco-awareness events like upcycling workshops, green tech talks, and poster competitions. Many multinational companies and Vietnamese corporations use Earth Day to spotlight their ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) efforts. Offices may host “green week” activities, such as waste reduction challenges, no-plastic office days, energy-saving campaigns, and sustainable transportation.

A: Small actions add up — whether it’s reducing plastic use, planting trees, conserving water, or simply spreading awareness. And messages like Mr. Sanyal’s are a great reminder that each of us can play a part in shaping a greener, healthier future.

B: Thank you, Mr. Sanyal, for sharing your thoughts and spirit with us. Let’s all carry that message forward, not just on Earth Day, but every day.

A: You’re listening to the Letter Box on VOV. Have you started working on your entry for our contest “What do you know about Vietnam?”

A: Here are the contest questions and participation rules again.

B: Remember, this contest is open to all VOV listeners around the world. It’s highly competitive, so we encourage you to make your entry stand out with thorough research and a creative presentation—both in writing and visuals.
