Violence erupted in Nigeria on Sunday. A suicide car bombing struck a northern Catholic church, triggering a series of bloody reprisals the same day. At least 10 deaths and 145 injuries were reported.

The church blast was followed by Christian assaults against persons assumed to be Islamists. Musa Ilallah, regional coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, said that the blast shook the Malali neighbourhood of Kaduna. The city has suffered a wave of deadly violence blamed on the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram which mainly operates in Nigeria’s northern and central regions. No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing, which was similar to Boko Haram’s previous attacks.
