(VOVWORLD) - 12 component projects of a mega project to build the eastern section of the trans-Vietnam expressway were launched on Sunday, the first day of 2023, at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The 723 km section, which runs through 12 provinces and cities and costs an estimated 6.2 billion USD, is scheduled to be completed by 2025, linking the northern border province of Lang Son and the southern most province of Ca Mau.
Addressing the launch ceremony, PM Chinh said that developing a uniform infrastructure system is one of 3 strategic breakthroughs defined by the 13th National Party Congress.
Under the Congress resolution, Vietnam should have 5,000 km of expressways by 2030. As of 2020, some 1,000 km of expressways had been constructed.
