(VOVworld) - About 1,400 migrants were rescued Saturday in the Mediterranean.

The Italian coastguard said migrants traveled on 7 vessel, including 6 rubber boats, one of which carried up to 800 people. Since early November, the number of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea has decreased as winter approaches. Nearly 5,400 migrants have arrived in Italy compared to 3,200 the same period last year. International organizations said more than 4,000 people have died in the Mediterranean Sea this year.
